A friend in Thailand has known and enjoyed and reviewed our 2015 pu-erh tea. Although this tea is no longer sold, every year we are still trying to make better and better teas.
2015 Vietnam Sheng from @hienminhtea Hien Minh Tea House
the dry leaves smell really dry, woody, a bit smokey and of whiskey
the wash shows some sweet notes and the 1st steep smells of a typical sheng aroma with oily herbs
i drink the first brew and as this is my first vietnam sheng ever, i think i got a good one here.
it's not as viscous as puer, but shows a more complex and sweeter aroma than what i am used too, also the woody herbal aroma joined by honey notes is something to favor and gives me an idea of vietnam sheng teas.
the vietnam teas i had in my life so far were inferior asia market teas of roots and herbs and this sheng really reminds me of them in the herbal aspect.
the 1st brew leaves me with a very fresh mouthfeel and a very obvious qi that even makes me feel a bit dizzy.
the viscosity is not simply lesser, but different, it's there but more in an oily way rather than a glutinous one, a finer viscousity.
i am really impressed so far and would buy this tea anytime soon just from the 1st impression.
2nd brew:
smelling shows some sandy and slightly sour aromatic together with a slight whiskey note
sipping it shows a very sweet and just very slightly bitter and smokey note, it immediately gives me a rush like some drugs again. what a great sheng! i am deeply impressed. what i've seen here in a few minutes would be a long search in china to find some high quality trees like in this tea that didnt get blended with lower quality material.
3rd bew:
it smells of really big, thick and fresh, strong leaves, kind of sour and of chlorophyll, but with a flowery sweetness.. i really gotta get some more vietnam tea ;)
drinking reveals a very soft and obviously floral, sweet aroma. great. just what a 7542 could have been 10 years ago.
Daily facts: I'm simply surprised of the quality, an awesome sheng.
Daily rating: 5/5
